Trails in the Cindrel Mountains

The Cindrel Mountains, with a surface of approximately 900 sq. km lay north of the Sadu and Frumoasa Valleys and east of the Sebeș River. Its highest summits are Niculeşti (2036 m), Cânaia (2045 m) and Cindrel (2244 m).

Due to the crystalline structure of the rocks, the mountains have a rich hydrographical system. The main river basin is that of the Cibin River. There are very many streams, even up high in the mountains at over 1800 m of altitude. Pastures and the presence of streams favoured the development of an impressive pastoral region currently known as Mărginimea Sibiului.

Thus, hiking routes in the Cindrel Mountains are excellent opportunities to discover the natural heritage but also to encounter a specific culture, an ancient way of life and well preserved traditions.

Altitudes in the Cindrel Mountains range from 1400 to 2244 m, hiking trails are of moderate difficulty and most of them set out from the Păltiniş resort or from Cisnădie, Cisnădioara, Sadu, Râu Sadului, Răşinari, Sibiel.
