As you get close to Hosman you shall see the tower of the fortified church guarded from a distance by the peaks of the Făgăraş Mountains.

In the early 16th century the double precinct encircled a Romanesque basilica whose very eloquent stylistic elements place the monument in the eighth decade of the 13th century - the planimetric placement being similar to the one discovered at the basilicas from the region of Sibiu built in the same century. The enemy attacks forced the locals to fortify it two centuries later when they added two curtains of defence walls, towers and bastions. Even so, the settlement was attacked by the army of Vlad the Impeller who set it on fire in 1456. The rock cannon projectiles encased in the precinct wall stand as a proof of this attack.

The precinct around the church was built in the 15th century together with a double mantle wall with two towers on the outer wall and four on the interior wall. The gate tower unites the two precincts and still keeps the wooden portcullis above which the year of 1502 is still visible.

In 1903 when the 1 m high debris remained from the demolition of the aisles was removed, they discovered the old aisles pavement made of hexagonal bricks as often encountered at the old Romanesque basilicas from Transylvania.

The scenes painted inside the church invite us to a genuine journey to the world of phantasy while also giving us a life lesson: animal-like characters, biblical or fantastic characters, supernatural beings and dramatic scenes draw our attention to the eternal fight between good and evil, matter and spirit, divine and diabolic.
