The National Folk Traditions Festival (since 2001)

Since 2001, the ASTRA Museum organizes The National Folk Traditions Festival, following the model of the Smithsonian Folklife Festival from Washington DC (event where Romania attended as a guest of honour in 1999). 

The Festival presents authentic traditions from all over the country. The event is an interactive one, with live demonstrations, illustrating everyday life and spiritual (religious) life through a direct dialogue between the artists (over 300 participants all dressed in their original folk costume) plus the visiting guests.

Each edition of the Festival reunites a county from Transylvania (including Banat, Crişana, and Maramureş), Muntenia (including Oltenia and Dobrogea) and Moldova (including Bucovina and Basarabia), as well as representatives of the Romanian communities from: Republic of Moldavia, Serbia, and Hungary.
