Held every year by the Sibiu State Philharmonic since 2001, the Sibiu Opera Festival has grown into a truly international celebration of opera — one that brings together audiences from Romania and beyond, all united by their love for this timeless art form.
Each edition welcomes more than 500 guest artists from around the world: conductors, soloists, choral and chamber ensembles, opera and ballet companies, and artistic teams from some of the most renowned opera houses on the international scene.
You can enjoy performances at Thalia Hall, the "Ion Besoiu" Cultural Center, and in a variety of unconventional venues that give the festival its unique charm. The program is wonderfully diverse — opera, operetta, musicals, ballet, opera for children, vocal-symphonic concerts, lied and aria recitals, a vocal competition, and plenty of related events to explore.
As the very first festival in Romania dedicated to opera — and the longest-running, most ambitious project of the Sibiu Philharmonic — it's also a springboard for young talent. Through the vocal competition, master classes, the Take an Opera Break program, and the Sibiu Opera Festival Gala, emerging artists get the rare chance to learn from established names and step onto the stage alongside a professional orchestra, often for the very first time.
Whether you're a lifelong opera lover or simply curious, the Sibiu Opera Festival is an invitation to experience the magic of live performance in one of Transylvania's most beautiful cities.
