Every year, in the third week of September, Sibiu hosts the Ars SACRA Festival – a celebration of sacred art and timeless values. First organized in 2007 and inspired by an initiative from Budapest, the festival has become part of the European Heritage Days, bringing together communities and cultures around beauty, goodness, and truth.
The aim of the festival is to highlight the Judeo-Christian roots of European culture, showcasing the sacred dimension found across all forms of art – from music and painting to architecture and literature. The special atmosphere of these events uplifts the spirit and creates connections through a shared cultural and spiritual experience.
From 13 to 21 September 2025, six historic parishes in Sibiu, together with the local administration and cultural institutions from Hungary, will open the doors of churches and other venues for a series of free events: concerts, exhibitions, themed guided tours, and the Open Churches Day.
Whether you are passionate about history, art, and music, or simply wish to experience Sibiu at its most vibrant, the Ars SACRA Festival is the perfect opportunity to connect with the city’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage.
